TAGUM CITY, Davao del Norte, Philippines – Police on Saturday shot and killed a suspected assassin and wounded his companion after the two allegedly killed a farmer inside the bus terminal in Montevista town, in Compostela Valley.
Terso Anggoy died of multiple gunshot wounds in a brief clash with police as he and another companion were about to flee after the killing of 42-year-old Jimmy Ville in Poblacion village around 5 p.m., Senior Superintendent Camilo Cascolan, Compostela Valley police chief, said.
Cascolan, in a text message to Philippine Inquirer, said Ville was at the bus terminal when the suspects arrived on a motorcycle.
According to information gathered by the police and events witnessed by responding cops, the 51-year-old Anggoy, a resident of New Tibungco village, then walked toward Ville and for still unknown reason, shot the farmer several times in the body using a cal. 45 pistol. Ville died instantly and Anggoy immediately hopped onto a motorcycle driven by a male companion.
“Policemen on mobile patrol came to the scene and were able to intercept the suspects who were about to flee on a motorcycle. The suspects fired at (the police), the latter returned fire resulting in the death of the gunman and the wounding of the unknown driver who managed to escape,” Cascolan said.
Authorities recovered at the crime scene the bodies of Ville and Anggoy as well as a cal. 45 pistol, spent shells for .45 bullets, fired slugs, 10 spent shells of M-16 rifle bullets, the motorcycle, and personal belongings of the slain suspect.
Cascolan said an investigation into the killing of Ville and the subsequent fatal shootout between Anggoy and the police has started.
