STA. MARIA, Davao Occidental, Philippines—Davao del Sur anti-drugs agents arrested six men during a buy-bust operation in Barangay Basiawan here Friday.
Senior Inspector De Quencio Pante, chief of the Provincial Anti-illegal Drugs Special Operation Task Force, said the suspects yielded about two kilograms of marijuana and were taken into custody.
He identified them as Mc Juncher Semillano, 27, and Jerry Kimnon Roman, 25, both residents of Malungon, Sarangani Province; Arven Gabriel Camarino, 25; Ramil Sambayon dela Penes, 27; Melco Cedillo Arancon, 20, and John Tanghal Carmen, 20, all residents of Barangay Basiawan.
Pante said the suspects were charged with violation of the anti-narcotics law.
Senior Superintendent Michael John Dubria, intelligence chief of the Southern Mindanao police, said the anti-drugs operation here was part of the intensified police action against illegal drugs.
Isabela Representative Rodolfo Albano III, a member of the house minority bloc, had proposed the legalization of marijuana for medical purposes. But many officials in Davao del Sur and Davao Occidental said they were opposed to this.
