MANILA, Philippines — Labor group Kilusang Mayo Uno (KMU) urged transport groups not to accept the government’s fuel subsidy offer, Chona Yu of 990AM reported Monday.
KMU was quoted as saying that the offer was “insulting” and was President Benigno Aquino III’s “bribe” so that transport groups would stop protesting against the continuous oil price increases.
KMU also urged transport groups to appeal the scrapping of the value added tax (VAT) on oil products and to repeal the oil deregulation law, the report said.
Malacañang on Saturday said the government could afford to give another fuel subsidy to the public transport sector, which has been reeling from the new round of oil price increases.
Aquino invited leaders of public transport groups to a meeting
this week to address issues brought about by the continuous rise in the prices of petroleum products.
