THE 25-year-old man who killed and buried his mother in their home in barangay Mambaling, Cebu City will be arraigned on parricide charges before the court today.
Christian Lucky Dalangin is scheduled for arraignment at the sala of Regional Trial Court Judge Gilbert Moises of Branch 18 at 8:30 a.m today.
In an extra-judicial confession, Dalangin admitted killing his 53-year-old mother Rubirosa Tenchavez last Aug. 23.
But Agent Bernard dela Cruz of the National Bureau of Investigation in Central Visayas (NBI-7) said Dalangin will still face the full penalty even if he enters a “guilty” plea during his arraignment today.
Dela Cruz said there is “no mitigating circumstance” in the case. Parricide carries a penalty of reclusion perpetua or 20 to 40 years of imprisonment.
The crime happened inside the family home in Gochan Street in barangay Mambaling, Cebu City.
Dalangin said he was fed up with his mother’s nagging and false accusations.
He ate noodles and watched TV in the living room when his mother confronted him about broken floor tiles and a computer he reportedly damaged.
The suspect admitted getting a knife and slicing the victim’s throat.
He sought the assistance of two persons to dig a hole inside their stock room where he buried his mother.
After the murder, Dalanguin took his mother’s jewelry—eight rings, a necklace, earrings, a bracelet and P23,000 cash.
He pawned the bracelet for P26,495 at the M. Lhuillier Pawnship in Mambaling.
His friend whom he informed about the crime cooperated with the NBI-7.
Dalangin is presently detained at the Cebu City Jail in barangay Kalunasan, Cebu City. Reporter Ador Vincent Mayol
