‘Basyang’ death toll rises to 6

MANILA, Philippines – The number of fatalities from tropical storm “Basyang” rose to six on Monday, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said.

Three more people from Cebu were reported to have died from the effects of the storm, which had already weakened into a low pressure area and left the Philippine area of responsibility on Sunday.

All the new fatalities were from Cebu and were identified as: Allan Cris Lisondra, 14, of Samboan Cebu (landslide); Anthony Garcia Collarte, 63, of Binaobao village (drowning); and Vincent Paras Jayme, 5, Poblacion in Compostela (electrocution).

There were five others reported missing, including a Korean national whose motor banca sank between Camotes Island and Danao City in Cebu. The rest of his companions in the banca were unidentified.

There were 42,987 persons affected in nine provinces due to Basyang. Of these, there were 5,646 persons sheltered in evacuation centers.
