Store owner stabbed dead by robber in QC

/ 05:28 AM February 03, 2014

An 80-year-old store owner was repeatedly stabbed and killed on Saturday night by a suspected robber in Quezon City.

Leonardo Cabato, a resident of Boni Serrano Avenue in Barangay (village) Blue Ridge-B, was declared dead on arrival by attending doctors of Quirino Memorial Medical Center from multiple stab wounds in the body.

SPO1 Pascual Fabreag of the Quezon City Police District’s Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit said that the incident happened around 9 p.m. on Saturday in front of Cabato’s sari-sari store. Fabreag said that Cabato’s neighbor only saw the octogenarian being attacked by a stranger, prompting her to scream for help and causing the suspect to flee.

When the witness approached the victim, she saw that the robber had stabbed him in the head with a screw driver. The case investigator said that the suspect could have attacked Cabato to get him out of the way. The suspect, he explained, could have been planning on ransacking the sari-sari store after killing the elderly man.—Jeannette I. Andrade
