MANILA, Philippines—Sen. Manuel Villar lost more than P200 million in assets during his unsuccessful run for president last year, but remains as the richest member of the Senate.
Villar, who placed third in the presidential race despite having the biggest campaign kitty, had a net worth of P725.22 million, down from P947.88 million the year before, according to his statement of assets, liabilities and net worth as of Dec. 31, 2010.
Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV kept his place as the poorest senator with a net worth of P3.83 million, which was slightly up from P3.47 million in 2009.
Trillanes’ assets, which totalled P5.226 million, included a 120 sq.m. property in Cavite, a 308 sq.m. residential lot in Antipolo City, and a residential condominium in Parañaque City. He had a cash on hand worth P1.2 million, furniture and antiques worth P670,000 and pieces of jewelry worth P460,000. His liabilities totalled P3.88 million.
A far second in the list of richest senators for 2010 was Sen. Ralph Recto, who was worth P418.52 million. Sen. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. was third with P311.5 million, while Sen. Ramon Revilla Jr. and Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile were fourth and fifth with P125.75 million and P116.07 million, respectively.
Revilla’s worth was slightly up from P123.73 million in 2009, while Enrile’s was down from P118.8 million.
Sen. Jinggoy Estrada earned more last year with P93.56 million. His net worth was P84.03 million in 2009. Sen. Sergio Osmena III placed seventh with P82.3 million, while Sen. Pia Cayetano had P76.77 million.
Sen. Teofisto Guingona III placed ninth with P73.97 million, followed by Sen. Edgardo Angara with P70.09 million. Angara’s worth was up from P64.2 million in 2009.
