Over 5,000 passengers stranded in ports due to ‘Basyang’

MANILA, Philippines–Over 5,000 passengers were stranded in ports due to Tropical Storm “Basyang,” the Philippine Coast Guard said on Friday.

The Coast Guard said over social media that there were 5,178 passengers stranded as of 3 p.m. in some ports of Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Bicol, Northern Mindanao and National Capital Region.

Most of the stranded passengers were from Manila, with 3,035.

Thirteen areas in the Visayas and Mindanao were placed under Signal No. 2, while 19 were placed under Signal No. 1 due to the storm.

Basyang is expected to make landfall late Friday or early Saturday between Southern Leyte and tip of Surigao.
