MANILA, Philippines – More than 3,000 crimes were committed by motorcycle riders in Metro Manila last year, the Philippine National Police said Tuesday.
Senior Superintendent Benigno Durana Jr., PNP Directorate for Operations Law Enforcement Division chief, laid out in a press briefing the recent assessment of the police on the spate of motorcycle-related street crimes.
The alarming rise of crime statistics prompted the PNP Directorate for Operation to include in its plan, in coordination with the National Capital Region Police Office, to give each policeman in all checkpoints photos of criminals – either fugitives or with a history of pulling off crimes on motorcycles.
Durana, said 1,033, 833 crimes were committed in 2013.
In a separate presentation, Chief Superintendent Augusto Marquez Jr., PNP Directorate for Investigation and Detective Management executive officer, revealed that most crimes were recorded in the barangay (villages), police blotters, and in other law enforcement agencies.
