MANILA, Philippines—President Benigno Aquino III has reappointed Silvestre Afable Jr. and the spouse of former Customs Commissioner Ruffy Biazon, among others, as officials of state-run John Hay Management Corp. in Baguio City.
The President signed on Jan. 20 the appointments of the members of the board of the John Hay Management Corp. “for the unexpired term that began on July 1, 2013, and will end on June 30, 2014,” said Undersecretary Abigail Valte in a radio interview.
The corporation runs the sprawling Camp John Hay, a former American rest and recreation camp.
Afable, former government negotiator for the peace process in Mindanao, remains chair of the board.
“I also have the nomination papers of Mr. Silvestre C. Afable Jr. as chair of the board of the John Hay Management Corp., also signed by the President on Jan. 20, 2014,” said Valte.
Besides Afable, the other John Hay officials whose tenures have been extended were Jamie Eloise M. Agbayani, Arnel Paciano D. Casanova, Reynaldo U. Agranzamendez, Catherine Mary R. Biazon, Emerito P. Manalo, Ceasar G. Oracion, Gloria F. Peralta, Teddy Esteban F. Rigoroso, Antonio H. Tengco and Alexander L. Bangsoy.
Bansoy is replacing Felicito C. Payumo, who ran but lost in the congressional race in the 1st district of Bataan in 2013.
Biazon’s wife has been with John Hay since April 2011, said Valte.
“This appointment is just a renewal because as officials of GOCCs (government-owned and controlled corporations), their appointments are renewed yearly. So she has been sitting on the (board) of John Hay for quite a while,” said Valte. Michael Lim Ubac
