A WOMAN and her son were sued for allegedly disrespecting a barangay court in Talisay City, Cebu.
A petition to cite Florencia Gabi and her son Alexander for indirect contempt was filed before the Regional Trial Court.
The mother and son earlier walked out of mediation proceedings held by the lupong tagapamayapa headed by Ofelia Ylanan.
Alexander “in a loud and angry voice” challenged the barangay panel to sue him in court and showed his disgust by dragging the chair forcefully before walking out with his mother.
A complaint was earlier filed against them by lot owners who called their for blocking a government project.
Last July 26, Talisay City Mayor Socrates Fernandez sent a truck loaded with sand, cement, plywood, and construction materials to the private lot in barangay Linao for a government project.
However, the defendants fenced the lot owned by the heirs of Gil Maribago. Marigabo’s lawyer and the barangay had entered a memorandum of agreement to validate the project.
During mediation proceedings, the defendants failed to show documents to prove their claims over the lot.
“Despite lawful orders of the chairman and members of the Lupong Tagapamayapa to come back and continue the proceedings, the defendants did not heed the orders and instead willfully and arrogantly left the barangay hall,” the plantiffs said./REPORTER ADOR VINCENT S. MAYOL
