MANILA, Philippines – The Senate on Thursday resumed its investigation on the Manila Electric Co.’s (Meralco) power rate increase, as well as the proposed amendments on the Electric Power Industry Reform Act (Epira).

The joint hearing of the committees on energy and trade, commerce and entrepreneurship will tackle resolutions filed by Senators Ralph Recto, Antonio “Sonny” Trillanes IV, and Joseph Victor “JV” Ejercito.

Meralco imposed a staggered P4.15 per kilowatt hour (kwh) increase in 2013 that was later halted by the Supreme Court. The 60-day temporary restraining order was ordered after the filing of petitions questioning the increase.
