SC nixes bid to defer debate on legality of DAP

MANILA, Philippines—The Supreme Court on Tuesday turned down the government’s request to move the debate on the legality of the disbursement acceleration program from Jan. 28 to March 25.

Government lawyers led by Solicitor General Francis Jardeleza sought the postponement saying their counsel, retired Supreme Court Associate Justice Vicente Mendoza, needed more time to study the case.

At the same time, the Supreme Court has moved the presentation of documents from the Budget Department to Feb. 18 instead of March as requested by the government.
