MANILA, Philippines – Two passenger vessels ran aground off Cebu and Leyte on Thursday morning, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said.

Coast Guard spokesperson Lieutenant Commander Armand Balilo said M/V Joyful Star with at least 237 passengers ran aground in Bantolino Point in Mactan Island around 1:00 a.m.

Another vessel M/V Our Lady of All Nations owned by Medallion Transport also ran aground in Bato, Leyte around 12:20 a.m. that left 90 passengers stranded.

Balilo said all passengers were safe and assisted by coast guard rescue team deployed to the area.

The PCG is now verifying whether the incident is related to the low pressure area being monitored by the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

The Medallion Transport owns the vessel M/V Lady of Mt. Carmel, which sank off Masbate last year that killed two people.
