MANILA, Philippines—The fare increase for the Light Rail Transit (LRT) and Metro Rail Transit (MRT) will still be implemented this year, Transportation and Communications Secretary Emilio “Jun” Abaya said Wednesday.
In an interview on Radyo INQUIRER 990AM, Abaya said there was the deferment of the new fare hike, which was supposed to be imposed January this year.
He said they are still determining when to implement the fare hike.
“We have gone through a public consultation and likewise the Light Rail Transit Authority board has issued a resolution on this, but as far as to the implementation date, we have no decision yet,” Abaya said.
He said the implementation date on the fare hike will still be agreed upon by concerned agencies.
