MANILA, Philippines – The Land Transportation and Franchising Board said Tuesday morning that it was a “first” for the agency, since its establishment in 1987, to revoke the franchise of a bus operator covering its entire units.
Winston Ginez, LTFRB chairman, announced the cancellation of Don Mariano Transit’s certificate of public convenience to operate covering 78 bus units following “numerous accidents” with the latest killing at least 20 individuals.
Last Dec. 16, 2013, a Don Mariano Transit bus plying the southbound lane of Skyway fell and crashed in a van below along the South Luzon Expressway in Paranaque City.
Don Mariano Transit Corp. said it would file a motion for reconsideration against the decision of LTFRB.
Lawyer Jason Cantil, Don Mariano Transit representative, said that the operator was concerned for its 160 employees that included drivers, conductors, inspectors and office staff.
