BAGUIO CITY, Philippines—Temperatures in this city plunged to 9.6 degrees Celsius on Sunday, the coldest it’s been so far, following the 10.3 degrees Celsius experienced on Saturday.

Cold winds swept through this mountain resort from 5:35 a.m. to 7 a.m. before the temperature nudged up to 10 degrees, according to Wilson Lucando, weather observer at the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) here.

The city sees its coldest temperatures between January and February, Lucando said, and the early chill indicates that Baguio may experience still lower temperatures through next month.

The warmest Baguio got on Sunday was at 2 p.m. when the temperature rose to 21 degrees, Lucando said.

Local Pagasa officials attributed the drop in temperatures to the cold winds blowing from China.—Desiree Caluza
