ANOTHER former University of the Philippines stalwart is jumping ship to help the latter’s cross-street rivals. This after reports have Maroon great Ronnie Magsanoc joining the coaching staff of their Katipunan rivals, the Ateneo Blue Eagles.
Though Ateneo officials have yet to announce the addition, a report on Spin.ph has Magsanoc becoming the latest UP alumnus to move over to the Blue Eagles’ nest, joining current head coach Bo Perasol and former Maroons head coach Ricky Dandan. It can be recalled that Dandan was at the helm of the Maroons until midway through last season when he was ousted.
The report said Magsanoc has already been attending the practices in the Eagles’ bid to return to prominence after missing out on the Final Four last year following five straight titles.
Aside from an impressive playing resumé that includes having led the Maroons to their lone UAAP title back in 1986 and being named as one of the PBA’s 25 Greatest Players, Magsanoc is also a crafty head coach and showed it by leading the San Beda Red Lions to the crown in 2012 before resigning after just one season. He also serves as an assistant on the Meralco Bolts. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
