Charred bodies in Danao belong to Koreans

THE mystery over the identity of two charred bodies found inside a sports utility vehicle (SUV) in barangay Sabang, Danao City on Nov. 19 last year was cleared up after they were identified as  two missing Koreans, Kim Mingyu alias Billy and Yong Sangwon alias Esteve.

DNA tests conducted on  samples from the femur bone of the victims matched  samples from the parents of the two Koreans, said Chief Insp. David Alexander Patriana of the PNP Crime Laboratory.

The two Koreans were car dealers residing in  barangay Talamban, Cebu City.

Warren Sia, a car dealer from barangay Pakigne, Minglanilla, was linked to the case after two witnesses identified him in their sworn affidavits as the  last person who was with the victims before they went missing, said Senior Supt. Noel Gillamac, chief of the Cebu Provincial Police Office.

Gillamac said investigators are studying what case can be filed. The SUV was traced to its registered owner, Jennifer Veloso of barangay Dumlog,Talisay City.  Veloso is married to a Korean who is also a surplus car dealer.

“We still need to gather more evidence for this case, aside from witnesses,” Gillamac said.

A group of teenagers who were outdoors looking  for spiders saw the SUV burning in barangay Sabang, Danao City in the evening of Nov. 19, 2013.
