Danny I shows off old form with Meralco

SHOWING that he still had plenty of gas left in the tank, former two-time league MVP Danny Ildefonso made his comeback in stellar fashion as he helped the Meralco Bolts snap a four-game losing spell with a 92-88 overtime win over the Air21 Express just last Saturday.

Ildefonso, who was released by the Petron Blaze Boosters during the offseason in a controversial parting, scored 14 points and added six rebounds and five assists, underscoring his bid to prove to the rest of the league that he still had game.

For that gallant showing, the Pangasinan-native was deemed as the PBA Player of the Week for the period of January 4 to 5 in the ongoing Philippine Cup.

Meralco coach Ryan Gregorio described the 37-year-old big man’s addition to the team as “enormous”, saying all he wanted was to give the basketball to a player like Ildefonso who can make the “right decisions” in the end.

“He (Ildefonso) really believes he’s not done yet. And I’m giving him the opportunity and the stage to do it,” said Gregorio. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio with a report from pba media bureau
