MANILA, Philippines – The annual Black Nazarene procession will no longer pass the MacArthur Bridge as observed in previous years but will instead pass through the Jones Bridges, which is more stable.

Mogsignor Clemente Ignacio said the change in route was adopted to avoid untoward incidents as recommended by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

Ignacio said the DPWH found out that the structural stability of the MacArthur Bridge could no longer handle the bulk of devotees, who will attend the procession.

The  DPWH, he said,  recommended the Jones Bridge as an alternate route which has undergone repairs and stability check in preparation for the millions of devotees attending the procession.

“This is to ensure the safety of everyone,” he said.
