Cold weather likely to prevail until February – Pagasa

MANILA, Philippines – Eastern Visayas and Davao Region will experience cloudy skies with light to moderate rains and thunderstorms while parts of Luzon will continue to experience cold weather due to the northeast monsoon or “hanging amihan,” the state weather bureau said on Monday.

Ben Oris of the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration  (Pagasa) told INQUIRER.net that cold temperatures will likely prevail until February. The coldest temperature recorded in Metro Manila was last January 1 at 19.2 degrees Celsius.

Oris said temperatures could still drop in Metro Manila. The northeast monsoon is affecting Northern and Central Luzon.

No weather disturbance was spotted in the country.

Metro Manila and the regions of Cagayan Valley, Ilocos, Cordillera, Central Luzon, Bicol Region and Calabarzon will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains, Pagasa said.

The rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms.

Moderate to strong winds blowing from the Northeast will prevail over Northern and Central Luzon and the coastal waters along these areas will be moderate to rough. Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate coming from the northeast with slight to moderate seas.

Based on Pagasa’s gale warning, strong to gale force winds are expected to affect seaboards of Northern Luzon and the Eastern seabord of Central Luzon.

Fishing boats and other small seacraft are advised not to venture out into the sea while larger vessels are alerted against big waves.
