MANILA, Philippines – With the demand for electricity to rise in the dry season, the government is now working to ensure that there will be no power outages during this period.
In a radio interview, Secretary Herminio Coloma of the Presidential Communications Operations Office said the Department of Energy has coordinated with stakeholders to ensure a stable power supply.
“We cannot allow widespread or frequent power outages because it will be bad for the economy,” Coloma said. “We can expect the DOE to continue monitoring the situation.”
The surge in electricity demand during summer season usually leads to power systems overload and breakdowns.
Electricity consumption rises during the summer as customers have more use for cooling appliances like air-conditioners, refrigerators, freezers, electric fans and water pumps to cope with the heat.
During summer, vacationing students would be staying home and can be expected to use more electricity, spending their free time with entertainment appliances like television sets, video game consoles and computers.
