ONE member of the Cebu City Traffic Operations Board (Citom) doesn’t agree with its stand on flyovers.
Cebu City Councilor Ritchie Osmena was absent in yesterday’s board meeting, where the traffic body passed its resolution opposing two new flyovers in busy intersections of the north district.
“I am for flyovers. It may not be the solution to the traffic but at least it helps,” Osmena said. He said he didn’t attend the meeting due to a conflict of schedule when the Citom board met on a Thursday instead of Wednesday. Nevertheless, the resolution was passed unanimously by those present.
Citom chairman Sylvan “Jack” Jakosalem said the board took the stand based on public interest.
“It’s mainly what we believe is best for Cebu City. No one is against flyovers. In fact, my favorite flyover is the one at TESDA (at the corner of Juan Luna Avenue and Archbishop Reyes Avenue). But there must be a proper study first and there must be road widening that goes along with it,” he said.
Citom head Rafael Yap said th Cebu city government was not consulted about the new projects. Correspondent Edison delos Angeles
