BEL SUELTO of the Bowlingplex Tenpin Association (BTA) will defend his national title against the country’s best keglers in the annual BTA National Classic Singles Open at the Gaisano Bowlingplex this weekend.
Suelto will have a one-round advantage as his foes have to go through the qualifying round today.
Suelto is automatically included in the top 24 for being the defending champion.
“Dako jud ko ug gipangandam ani kay dili sayon akong kontrahon,” said Suelto.
For BTA president Bede Llano, this year’s roster is not that tough compared to last year’s because of the absence of Philippine team members.
The National Women’s team is currently competing in Hong Kong while the men’s team is in Baguio. Cebu’s famed kegler Kimberly Lao will also not be able to compete because of an injury.
The qualifying round will be composed of 12 games and the top 24 will advance in the stepladder round and to the finals.
50 Cebuano bowlers will compete against keglers from Imus Tenpin Bowling Association (ITBA) headed by Philippine Bowling Congress (PBC) tournament director Archie Pertes, who is also here to supervise the tournament.
The winning bowler will bring home P40,000 while second placer will get P25,000. P10,000 goes to the third placer. CORRESPONDENT DALE G. ROSAL
