Meralco releases guidelines on December bill payments

MANILA, Philippines—After the Supreme Court temporarily stopped the Manila Electric Cooperative from raising its power rate, the power distribution firm has released its guidelines for customers in paying their bills in keeping with the court’s order.

Following the approval of the Energy Regulatory Commission, Meralco increased its power rates on December 9 by P4.15 per kilowatt-hour on a three-month staggered basis but the High Court issued a temporary restraining order on the power rate adjustment last December 23.

Meralco said that customers who already paid their bills between December 4 and 22 will have their next bills adjusted in compliance with the Court’s decision.

For the unpaid bills in the same period, customers are advised to either pay the amount equivalent to their November bill or pay the December bill if the amount is less than the previous month.

Both transactions shall only be made at the nearest Meralco Bayad Center or a Meralco Business Center.

For unpaid bills dated December 23 onwards, the amounts have already been changed to comply with the Supreme Court’s temporary restraining order.
