Orcollo-Alcano rips Austrians in World Cup of Pool

THE Filipino pair of Dennis “Robocop” Orcollo and Ronato “Volcano” Alcano won eight straight racks Wednesday night to turn a 0-2 deficit into an 8-2 rout of Jasmin Ouschan and Mario He of Austria in the second day of the 6th World Cup of Pool at the The Block Atrium of SM North EDSA.

“Bagama’t naunahan agad kami pero hindi kami nagpabaya ni Ronnie (Alcano) at buti naman naka abante agad kami sa unang laro namin,” said Orcollo, the top player of Bugsy Promotions referring to the 2-0 lead of Ouschan and He.

Earlier, the second Philippine pair of two-time champions Efren “Bata” Reyes and Francisco “Django” Bustamante, who won the tournament in 2006 and 2009, beat the Kuwaiti tandem of Khaled Al Mutairi and Omar Al Shaheen, 8-4.

Orcollo and Alcano will next face either Malta or Canada while Reyes and Bustamante will meet the unseeded Indian pair of Raj Hundal and Amar Kang, who brought down Finland’s Mika Immonen and Petri Makkonen, 8-7.

The $250,000, 32-team tournament offers $60,000 to to the winning pair.
