Warden wants cell phones barred inside Lapu City jail

THE jail warden of the Lapu-Lapu City Jail is proposing that visitors be barred from bringing cell phones inside the facility.

Supt. Samson Abaygar endorsed his proposal to Lapu-Lapu City Councilor Rodulfo Potot, who scheduled a public hearing on Sept. 13 to discuss the plan.

Potot is the committee chairman on police, fire and penology. The public hearing will be attended by jail officials and the inmates’ relatives.

Abaygar said inmates facing drug charges still find a way to continue with their illegal activities by using cell phones provided to them by visiting relatives.

Abaygar said although jail officials can control the inmates’ use of cell phones, it is better to have an ordinance so it could be strictly followed.

Abaygar said cell phones brought inside the facility should be confiscated. CORRESPONDENT NORMAN V. MENDOZA
