MANILA, Philippines — Former Muntinlupa Representative Rufino Biazon, a member of the Liberal Party, has “intimated” his desire to head either the Department of National Defense (DND) or the Department of Tourism (DoT).
DND is being headed by Secretary Voltaire Gazmin while on top of DoT is Secretary Alberto Lim.
“I intimated to him [President Benigno Aquino III] that I was interested in either DND or DoT. That was before he was proclaimed,” Biazon told INQUIRER.net.
“There was no categorical no or categorical yes. Of course, it was unavoidable that he had to appoint people to those posts and they have been confirmed by the CA [Commission on Appointments],” he said.
Biazon ran but lost in the May 2010 senatorial race. The Constitution prohibits the appointment of defeated candidates to any government post for at least one year.
Though his name was included in the list of LP members recommended to the search committee of the Palace, the former congressman said he has not yet received any official word if the President would apoint him.
“I’m willing to accept other positions he may offer as long as it is within my competency and interest. That is, if he thinks that I can be of use to his administration,” Biazon said.
