Thieves strike in QC, steal over P1.5M
Thieves took advantage of the long holiday weekend break to sneak into the empty houses of an administrative official of the Department of Agriculture (DA) and a mechanical engineer and take over P1.5 million worth of jewelry and electronic devices.
Agriculture department legal division chief Vero Librojo said he lost P210,000 worth of electronic gadgets and P350,000 worth of jewelry while mechanical engineer Rosemarie Rojo reported the theft of P1 million worth of assorted jewelry.
SPO1 Fernando Santiago of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Cubao station said that Librojo’s house on 8th Avenue in Barangay Socorro was burglarized sometime between 10:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. of Dec. 29 when the family left their home locked but unattended.
Santiago said that when the Librojos returned, they found the main door forced open.
Librojo then discovered that two of the rooms on the second floor had been ransacked of two government-issued laptop computers worth P200,000; two tablets worth P10,000 and a box of assorted jewelry worth some P350,000.
Meanwhile, reports said that Rojo’s house at the New Capitol Estate Subdivision in Barangay Batasan Hills was also broken into while the family was in Iloilo province, leading to the theft of some P1 million worth of jewelry.
