Man arrested for chapel burglary
POLICE arrested a suspect in the robbery of jewelry valued at almost a million pesos taken from glass encased relics of Sta. Rita of Cascia in Tabor Hill in barangay San Jose, Cebu City.
Elly Cogtas, 50, was arrested Monday afternoon in his house a few meters away from Tabor Hill.
Several witnsses identified Cogtas as the last person who entered the chapel on Sunday evening, said Senior Inspector Jose Gesto, Talamban police chief.
One of three stolen rings was recovered in Cogtas’ possession, said the police chief, adding that Cogtas was the sole perpetrator and had been previously implicated in three burglaries.
Gesto said at least three rings and two necklaces were stolen Sunday night. The thief smashed the glass case of Sta. Rita and took valuables donated by devotees. /Correspondent Chito O. Aragon Correspondent
