5 hurt by stray bullets during New Year revelry

MANILA, Philippines—Within a span of almost an hour, five victims of stray bullets were taken to Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center during the New Year revelry late Tuesday.

Authorities at the hospital identified the victims as follows:

•       Renz Esperida, 13, from Caloocan City who suffered a gunshot wound to his left leg. He was admitted at 11:45 pm of Dec. 31;
•       Analy Villaflores, 47, from 2nd Street 4th Avenue Caloocan City. She was admitted at JRMMC at 12:10 of Jan. 1. She suffered gunshot wound to her left leg.
•       Camille Cacatian, 5, from 2nd street Caloocan City. She was taken to JRMMC at 12 a.m. of Jan. 1. She suffered a gunshot wound entering from her ankle and the point of exit is her left leg.
•       Shiela Velasquez, 14, also from 4th Avenue, Caloocan City. She was taken to JRMMC at 12am. She suffered gunshot wound to her right leg.
•       Alvin Calendarion, 25, also from 2nd Street, 4th Avenue in Caloocan City. He was taken to JRMMC at 12:10a.m. of Jan. 1 and suffered gunshot wound to his left leg.

The victims were given anti-tetanus shots. Esperida was immediately discharged while the other four were admitted.
As of 8 a.m. Wednesday, there were already 87 cases of fireworks related injuries and gunshot wounds taken to JRMMC.
