Traffic altercation leaves 1 dead, 2 others wounded

Violence broke out in Barangay (village) La Huerta, Parañaque City, on New Year’s Eve, leaving a man dead and two other people wounded.

Barangay La Huerta executive officer Armando Concepcion died after he was shot by Barangay Don Galo resident and PO1 Michael Davila of the Aviation Security Group at 6:40 a.m. Tuesday.

According to Parañaque police chief Senior Supt. Ariel Andrade, Davila and his live-in partner were at the La Huerta public market, cutting through the crowded marketplace on their motorcycle, when Concepcion and another watchman told them off for going the wrong way on a one-way street.

A heated argument broke out between Concepcion and Davila, ending up with the two grappling for Davila’s service firearm after he drew it.

In the struggle, the gun went off, hitting Davila’s live-in partner, Maria Rosario Loares, in the head. According to witnesses, an enraged Davila then turned the gun on Concepcion and shot him.

Andrade said Davila also shot the other watchman, Jose Concepcion, because Davila may have felt “he was being ganged up on.”  He was later arrested.

Concepcion died at Parañaque District Hospital in La Huerta while Loares remains in critical condition at Perpetual Help hospital in Las Piñas. The other watchman was brought to San Juan de Dios hospital in Pasay.
