Netizens divided over Lacson as ‘Yolanda’ rehabilitation czar

MANILA, Philippines—A month after Supertyphoon “Yolanda” (Haiyan) ravaged Eastern Visayas, Malacañang had one person in mind to take charge in the rehabilitation efforts, and that man is Panfilo Lacson.

The no-nonsense former senator was aptly named rehabilitation czar to overlook the efforts in Yolanda-hit areas. However, netizens are not that wholly convinced that Lacson may be suitable for the job.

In an unofficial poll by INQUIRER.net, 47.51 per cent of the respondents or 4,870 of the total 10,250 think that the former police chief is capable of the task of building back the affected areas.

A close 40.65 per cent or 4,167 netizens does not approve of the appointment while 11.83 per cent or 1,213 could not decide if Lacson really is the man for the job.

Malacañang appointed Lacson as rehabilitation czar last December 10 to oversee the rebuilding efforts in Eastern Visayas after “Yolanda” made landfall on November 8.
