MANILA, Philippines – What would Jose Rizal’s final moments be like if he himself had tweeted about it?
To commemorate the Philippine National Hero’s death anniversary Monday, a twitter account going by the name Dr. Jose P. Rizal (@tweetnirizal) gave a blow-by-blow account of Rizal’s final moments on December 30, 1896.
The @tweetnirizal’s account is consistent with historical eyewitness accounts of the event by Rafael Palma, who later became president of the University of the Philippines and Alberto B. Mendoza, then a member of the drum corps called Leales Voluntarios de Manila.
According to the Presidential Museum and Library website, Rizal’s march from his prison cell in Fort Santiago Intramuros began at 6:30 in the morning and he was executed by firing squad exactly at 7:03 a.m.
