1 killed, 4 injured in Pasay shooting
MANILA, Philippines – A group of unidentified men shot up a barangay (village) hall in Pasay City on Friday night, killing a member of the local neighborhood watch and wounding four other people, including the barangay chairman, police said.
The fatality was identified as Jose Armiel Quilantang. Injured were Barangay 134 chairman Maynard Alfaro, barangay council members Jose Maria Mendoza and Noel Mariano Getizo and an area resident identified as Frank Reyes.
The victims, who were on duty as members of the neighborhood watch, were watching a basketball game on TV when four to five men surrounded the barangay hall at 9:30 p.m. and started shooting.
“We still don’t know who was the gunmen’s target at that time and what possibly could be their motive,” Senior Superintendent Florencio Ortilla said.
Police investigators noted that some of the assailants wore baseball caps and fled in a Toyota Corolla and a motorcycle after the shooting.
