A man was killed after he allegedly fought off police in a buy-bust operation in barangay Jubay, Liloan town, northern Cebu.
Elias Gulane, 41, suffered multiple gunshot wounds in the body and was declared dead when brought to the Eversly Sanitarium in Mandaue City.
Police said PO2 Gabriel Opoc of the intelligence branch of the Cebu Provincial Police Office went to Gulane’s house posing as a buyer Thursday evening.
Police said Gulane was a suspected drug dealer and allegedly fired a .38 revolver at Opoc after detecting he was a policeman.
The policeman returned fire and was shot in the right thumb.
SPO1 Francis Villamor, team leader of the arresting team, said they monitored Gulane for three weeks before the buy-bust was conducted.
Several packs of suspected shabu worth P50,000, drug paraphernalia, a .38 revolver, a 9mm caliber pistol, a .357 revolver and P1,750 cash were recovered from the man’s house, police said.
Police said Gulane was considered a level two drug pusher which means he was capable of selling at least 50 grams of shabu a week.
