A WANTED man accused of killing his mother was arrested by police in barangay Pasil, Cebu City before noon yesterday.
Eldrid Torreliza, 33, went to the Pasil port to pick up family members arriving from Bohol when he was arrested by operatives of the Investigation and Detective Management Branch (IDMB) of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO).
The arrest was based on a warrant issued by Regional Trial Court (RTC) Judge Marivic Dakay.
The parricide case filed against Torreliza is non-bailable, said Chief Insp. Aileen Recla, chief of the IDMB.
The suspect’s mother was killed and her body was chopped up and placed in a sack in barangay Poblacion, Getafe, Bohol, police said.
Torreliza denied the accusation against him.
“Limpyo ang akong konsensya nga wa ko nagpatay sa akong mama (My conscience is clean. I did not kill my mother),” he said.
The suspect has three children.
His wife is a teacher assigned in Pandanon Island in Bohol.
Torreliza was placed under surveillance for two weeks after police received a report that the man was hiding in Pasil.
Torreliza said he fled Bohol on the advice of his lawyer when he learned that he was tagged a suspect in his mother’s death.
He will be turned over to police counterparts in Bohol./CORRESPONDENT CHITO O. ARAGON
