Driver hits man then dumps body in cemetery

MANILA, Philippines — The Caloocan police arrested on Friday a jeepney driver who allegedly ran over and killed a man whose body he later dumped in a cemetery.

The suspect was identified as Ronaldo Verdadero, who lives at Villa Maria Street, while the victim was identified as Rodolfo de Vera, 57, a resident at  E. Rodriguez Street in Sangandaan. Both places are in Caloocan.

According to the police, Verdadero was driving his jeepney at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday on A. Mabini Street near Calle Uno when he hit and ran over De Vera, who was crossing the street.  The victim hit the pavement head first and apparently died instantly.

Verdadero stopped and loaded the victim’s body into his jeep. However, instead of bringing it to a hospital, he dumped it at the Tugatog Cemetery in Malabon City.

Later that day, witnesses spotted De Vera’s body and alerted the police. One of them identified Verdadero, who was his neighbor, as the man who dumped the body at the cemetery.

Verdadero, who was arrested in his house, now faces charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide.
