MANILA, Philippines – President Benigno Aquino III will be on a three-day break for some “peace and quiet” although he will continue to take calls, a Palace spokesperson said Friday.

Aquino’s break will begin this Friday and will end on Sunday, Deputy Presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte said.

“Knowing the President, he will take advantage of the fact that he has some peace and quiet but he will still take calls,” she said.

She said Aquino would spend his break at the Mansion House in Baguio City, but would continue to monitor  the Department of Transportation and Communications,  Philippine National Police, and Metro Manila Development Authority on the expected exodus of people to various destinations in the country before the New Year.

“He will insist on continuing to get updates from DOTC, from PNP and from MMDA and other relevant agencies,” Valte said.

Valte said the President did not have the luxury of time so he’ll be okay with the three-day vacation.

She also assured the public that the President was fit to work and got regular and periodic check-ups.

Valte’s statement stemmed from Health Secretary Enrique Ona’s advice to the President to take a longer break for health concerns.
