Mel Mathay, 81

MANILA, Philippines—Former Quezon City (QC) Mayor Ismael Mathay Jr., 81, has died due to a heart attack at the Medical City in Pasig City, family members said in television interview.

Mathay served for three terms as a city mayor from 1992-2001. He also was in Congress.

The mayor’s younger sibling, Simplicio Mathay, said that his brother was brought to the Medical City after he suffered a heart attack and was declared dead by attending doctors at around 9 a.m.

His remains will be brought to the Christ the King Parish on Green Meadows in White Plains for the wake.
