Stray bullets hit 2 as countdown to New Year starts –DOH

MANILA, Philippines — A 23-year old man from Ormoc City in Leyte is the first victim of a stray bullet, the Department of Health (DOH) said Wednesday.

DOH Assistant Secretary Dr. Eric Tayag said the victim suffered an open fracture in his left femur after being hit in the thigh last Monday.

Another, a 60-year old man, was also hit by a stray bullet in his left leg in Cavite.

Meanwhile, Tayag said the DOH has recorded 42 firework related injuries.

He said that a one-year old boy from Quezon City was the first victim of fireworks ingestion while a senior citizen from Iloilo had his eyeball ruptured by an unknown firecraker. With reports from Jan Escosio and Ruel Perez, Inquirer Radio 990AM
