THE SAN Roque Football Club (SRFC) under-18 girls team took down another strong contender in Saint Theresa’s College (STC) via a 2-0 decision yesterday in the 16th Aboitiz Football Cup at the Aboitiz Sports Field at the North Reclamation Area in Mandaue City.
The win was the team’s second in as many games. Last weekend, SRFC nailed its first upset win by outplaying the bigger Cebu International School (CIS), 11-1.
Once again, former Philippine youth members Mailyn Lozano and Marie Trebol powered SRFC’s victory yesterday.
After scoring a combined four goals in last week’s victory, the two helped chalk up the win against STC by scoring goals in the 41st and 55th minute of the game.
Meanwhile, Saint Augustine’s International School (SAIS) Football Club also staged an upset win over the heavily favored Talisay Raskals, 2-0, in the same division.
Kristy Cosep led the win for SAIS with goals in the 15th and 30th minute.
In the boys 18-under PAREF Springdale edged FCTV, 7-0, while Liloan FC defeated St. Joseph’s School-Mandaue (SJS-M) FC with the same score.
PAREF Springdale’s under 15-boys squad settled for a 2-2 draw with Giuseppe FC while the Abellana National School (ANS) Pomeroy grabbed their second win after routing Guardian Strikers, 2-0, in the same division.
More than a dozen matches in the men’s and women’s BPO and the premier men’s open will be held today at the same venue. /CORRESPONDENT DALE G. ROSAL
