MEXICAN sluggers Francisco Rosas, Rosbel Montoya and Gerson Guerrero gave shoppers at the Pacific Mall in Mandaue City a sample of their vaunted boxing skills in a public appearance yesterday to promote their Sept. 10 showdown against ALA Gym fighters at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino.
ALA Gym’s up and coming boxers also had a sparring session before the Mexican fighters were introduced to the crowd. The trio posed for pictures with fans who are also expected to flock to the venue this Saturday.
ALA Promotions patriarch Antonio Aldeguer also shed light regarding one of the intriguing matchups in the Pinoy Pride 8 card involving the talented but raw Genesis “Azukal” Servania against Mexican veteran Gerson “El Nene” Guerrero.
The question on the minds of boxing pundits here is whether Servania will be way over his head on fight night.
“If he beats Genesis, it will be because of his experience. I could have given Genesis an Indonesian for his first foreign opponent but the selling point in this fight is Philippines vs. Mexico, said Aldeguer.
“If Genesis is really good, he will win, if not, we’ll bring Guerrero back, possibly against AJ Banal. Roli Gasca has an OPBF defense this November so we could not schedule him for this card,” Aldeguer added.
“We are pushing our boxers because if they can’t perform well against tough opponents, why bother?” Aldeguer said.
Headlining the card is the WBO Intercontinental flyweight battle between Milan “Metodico” Melindo vs. Francisco “Chiquita” Rosas. Jason Pagara will also defend his WBO Youth Asia-Pacific jr.welterwight belt against Rosbel Montoya in the same card.
The final presscon for PP8 will be held today at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino. Weigh-in will be on Friday. /Correspondent Rene Bonsubre Jr.
