CANSOJONG and Tanke beat separate foes last weekend at the start of the Talisay City Mayors Cup Basketball Tournament at the Talisay City Sports Complex.
Cansojong nipped Lawaan I, 73-65 with Robert Abasanta scoring 25 points and Emmel John Galsado adding 14 markers. Tanke meanwhile, routed Dumlog, 71-66 also in the seniors division.
Cansojong trailed by five points in the first period but grabbed a three-point lead in the second, 35-32. Then Abasanta nailed 11 points in the third as Cansojong zoomed to a 56-36 lead.
Lawaan was led by Kimboy Marilao’s 14 points while Gilbert Gallarde and Sean Marion Povadora added 13 and 10 points, respectively.
Meanwhile, Ernesto Dacua and Regie Racaza scored 17 and 13 points, respectively, to lead Tanke past Dumlog which was paced by the 17 markers of Christopher Obeso.
In the SK division, San Isidro dumped Lawaan III, 84-66, while San Roque annihilated Pooc B, 100-38.
The Open division of the basketball tournament will kick off on Sept. 14 with C and J and Bulacao duking it out. /CORRESPONDENT DALE G. ROSAL
