SOME 70 individuals received their certificates of completion after finishing the “hilot massage” course during their graduation rites at the Cordova Home Village in Cordova town last Sunday.
Mayor Adelino Sitoy encouraged his constituents to grab the opportunity to enroll in a skills training program to help uplift their community.
“There are a lot of jobs available but the problem is our people don’t have skills,” Sitoy said.
He said the free skills training program can be availed through the office of Rep. Luigi Quisumbing (Cebu, 6th district).
Sitoy said more investors are now entering Cordova with the intent of hiring local residents.
Cordova Vice Mayor Techie Sitoy Cho, who was also present during the ceremony, expressed gratitude to Quisumbing for his initiative, “that is why we are very much in favor of retaining the PDAF (Priority Development Assistance Fund) as it helps the people a lot,” Cho said.
She added that a more empowered constituency hastens the development of the town.
Buenafe Sta. Rita, Tesda Assistant Regional Director and concurrent Tesda Cebu provincial director, said the graduates completed the 120 hours required for the hilot massage course.
He said the graduates will also be given a national certificate once they pass the final exam.
She said the national certificate can qualify them to work abroad.
She said Quisumbing set aside P5 million from his PDAF for the Tesda skills training scholarship program for the sixth district.
Medals were also extended to outstanding achievers, namely, Mae Faith Galvez, 36, of barangay Cambaro, Mandaue City for “most outstanding trainee;”
Rosette Hortelano, 46, of barangay Pusok, Lapu-Lapu City for “Best in Practice;” and Aireen Melendres, 28, of barangay Maguikay, Mandaue City for “Best in Academics.” /CORRESPONDENT NORMAN V. MENDOZA
