MANILA, Philippines – Fire razed a residential area in Payatas, Quezon City but nobody was reported injured, a fire official said.

The house, which was also a junk shop, caught fire at around 1 p.m. along  San Martin street in Barangay (village) Payatas A.

Senior Fire Officer 3 Mauricio Jose, a Quezon City Fire Department Official, said in a phone interview that the fire was put out more than an hour later at 2:22 p.m.

The fire reached the third alarm, Jose said.

An eyewitness on the scene told INQUIRER.net that the owner of the house, May Molod, said a cigarette butt thrown near her residence may have caused the fire.

She added that the firefighters had a hard time containing the blaze due to stocks of styrofoam inside the house and junk shop.
