Fire hits Parañaque warehouse; faulty electrical wiring eyed as trigger

MANILA, Philippines — A warehouse was gutted by fire in Parañaque City on Thursday morning.

Senior Fire Officer 4 Teodorico Gatchalian told the Philippine Daily Inquirer that the fire razed a stockroom for aluminum glass framing products damaging about P100,000 worth of property.

Gatchalian noted that the fire at the warehouse of Al-Ways Corporation located at Kilometer 16, East Service Road, San Martin de Porres, Parañaque, started at around 2 a.m. and reached third alarm after less than an hour.

“Based on our initial investigation, the fire started at the middle portion of the building and quickly spread to the other parts of the structure,” the fire officer said.

The cause of the blaze was still being investigated as of Thursday noon, although fire marshals said they initially suspected that the fire was caused by faulty electrical wiring.

There were no reported casualties in the fire, which was declared out at 3:05 a.m.

Gatchalian said that a grocery store near the gutted warehouse was also razed by fire in February 2012.

Around P15 million worth of grocery items was reportedly burned within the store.
