Confident that he would not be caught, a gunman even watched as barangay officials examined his victim’s body, only to be arrested after a witness positively identified him as the shooter.
Around 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Sam Abidin, 38, was singled out from a crowd of curious onlookers by Barangay Pinagbuhatan officials who took him into custody, according to case investigator Police Officer 3 Melvin Mendoza of the Pasig police.
“He was very confident he wouldn’t be caught. He was just watching while the body of the victim was on the ground,” Mendoza said.
Abidin’s arrest for the murder of Diosdado del Carmen, 48, at Villa Monique Compound corner San Agustin Street in Pasig City, took place after the witness said she was right behind the victim when she heard the suspect call him.
Abidin then shot the victim while his companion, who fled after the killing, stabbed Del Carmen twice in the back.
Mendoza said probers have yet to determine the motive for the killing although they suspect it has something to do with drugs as the victim was known to be a drug user. No weapon was recovered from the crime scene although six casings from a .45-cal. pistol and a deformed slug were found. Kristine Felisse Mangunay
