Security guards and scandalous parties

/ 07:29 AM December 19, 2013

When a robbery gang struck at a jewelry store inside  SM North Edsa in Quezon City, mall customers ran for their lives.

Among those who allegedly ran away from the crime scene were security guards who were supposed to apprehend the robbers.

Now, how can the management of SM malls  throughout the country assure customers of their safety when even their guards run away from criminals?

FEATURED STORIES

Security guards can’t be blamed for running away when a business establishment they’re supposed to protect is being robbed by armed men.

Most security guards are not trained to  handle guns.

Security agencies just hire guards to fill up a need for more bodies, without requiring them to undergo training.

Some applicants are given uniforms and then deployed as security guards.

That’s why most guards don’t know their job. They idea of  guarding is just standing at a corner and looking stern.

Most security guards are like  scarecrows in a ricefield where a lot of birds are around.

Some security guards at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) have become so wise they no longer stand at a corner. They compete with airport cops in extorting money from taxi drivers.

Cab drivers pay off security guards and airport policemen outside the terminal building to be allowed to queue up for passengers.

I’ve received reports that the guards belong to a security agency  with links to  an influential person.

The agency, according to my sources at the airport, was hired because the owner has connections with a top official of the Naia.

One of the most inefficient general managers who run  Naia—if not the most inefficient—is retired Air Force Brig. Gen. Angel Honrado.

The mess at Naia Terminals 1,2 and 3, as well as the Manila Domestic Terminal—such as the disorderly queue of vehicles and passengers and unauthorized cab drivers picking up passengers— can be attributed to Honrado, according to my sources.

Honrado was appointed to Naia management’s highest position because of his blood relations with President Noy.

He reportedly piloted the presidential helicopter of P-Noy’s mother, the late President Cory.

The local government of Bacoor, Cavite province held a big Christmas party for City Hall officials and employees, as well as barangay officials.

The bash was held at the city coliseum.

It was such a big event nobody even bothered to take  calls at city hall or any of its  barangay.

It’s scandalous for government officials and employees—and for that matter, even private persons—to hold merrymaking activities at this time because millions of our countrymen are suffering in the Visayas.

How could Bacoor officials be so insensitive!
